Vacation Rental Design - #1

It’s no secret the short term and mid term rental market are lucrative business opportunities in Austin for those looking to expand their assets and invest in real estate. Obtaining an investment property is exciting; the possibilities of what it can provide for your future motivate people into purchasing. But what happens after that? How do you turn your newly acquired investment into a space guests adore while considering the most cost-effective ways to provide a uniquely comfortable experience for them?

Today we back up from the extra amenities and quality linens to help you begin conceptualizing a design plan that sets your space apart.

We’ve created a 3 part series guiding investors (both short term and mid term) through the concept phase of design development to guarantee a unique experience for each guest. Working through this concept will help you substantially in making future decisions and guide you to focus on what's most important.

The first tip, is to have a THEME.

A theme is a 2 to 4 word description of the experience your guests will have while staying in your space. Because we are in Texas, we tend to fall back on the obvious movie portrayals of this state with desert cactus, western wear and honky tonk saloons. For Austin, it’s live music, Barton Springs and BBQ. And you know what? That's ok! I am here to give you permission to embrace it. Out of towners want it! Lean into this and use it as your first layer of your theme! Use the word list below to see begin building this picture and let it guide you to manifest your theme. Select a few that feel right to you based on your preference and location and the potential experiences your guests will be having while staying in your space.

Southern - gravy, twang, chicken fried steak, denim, bands, fiddle, country music, friendly, hospitality, horses, cotton, windmill

Western - cactus, spurs, cowboy boots, chaps, leather, cattle, ranch, pearl snaps, tractors, lasso, horse shoes, straw, rodeo

Austin / Texas - tacos, hot summers, hot sauce, clay, tequila, mezcal, bluebonnets, violet crown, bats, Austin FC, soccer, vodka, limestone, weird, yellow rose, Lonestar

Next up, we continue building your theme and help find inspiration and a design plan for your space. And if all this seems to much, book a brainstorming session with JoySpace Austin!
