Designing Guest Spaces: Why Paint is the Ultimate Design Tool
Paint is one of the most cost-effective and impactful ways to refresh a space. It has the power to:
Set the mood and define the room’s personality.
Make small spaces feel larger and brighter.
Complement existing decor and furniture, tying together design elements.
Provide an instant refresh with minimal effort and expense.
When used strategically, the right color palette can create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, whether it’s in a bathroom, a guest bedroom, or any other part of the home.
Choosing Colors for this Guest Room in a 1912 Vacation Rental in Austin Texas.
When designing one of our guest bedrooms, the key was to create a space that feels both stylish and restful. Here are some color considerations we used when building this design:
Warm neutrals: Shades like beige, taupe, and soft whites offer a welcoming and timeless appeal. For us, we like to use neutrals with our bedding, to give it a comfortable hotel vibe.
Cool blues and greens: These tones evoke a sense of calm and relaxation, perfect for helping guests feel at ease. We chose to introduce this color as an accent wall, which was a cost-effective, high-impact solution for this budget-conscious vacation rental client.
Bold accent colors: Build a design that stands out by incorporating bold hues sparingly. For this space, we added pops of mustard yellow and deep navy through throw pillows, artwork, and decorative accessories. These bold touches brought energy and personality to the room without overwhelming the overall serene vibe.
By combining warm neutrals, calming blues and greens, and strategic bold accents, we created a guest bedroom that balances comfort with style. Whether you’re designing for a vacation rental or your own home, this blend of colors is a foolproof way to ensure your guests feel welcomed and relaxed.
Make your space unforgettable with the perfect pop of color.
